Meg frowned, eyes unfocused for a moment as she just stared at the sky and half-listened. Indeed, the Cross-road demons wasted contracts on fools. But Hell would always have room for the seven billion human souls that walked the Earth’s surface. All she had to do was avoid those idiots. This “Bela” did not seem to be one of them, so she found herself safe for the moment.

The demon’s ‘brow quirked up in silent question before she offered a single-shouldered shrug. “No where. Everywhere.” Which was true. She had no destination, yet every one at the same time. Brilliant, yet not such at the same time. “Taking a leave off my Hell spawn duties to do some sight-seeing across the globe.”

Bela watched her steadily as she answered. It was unusual for a demon to seem so… contemplative. Actually unheard of in her own experience of the hellions. They were destructive, to either benefit themselves or simply for its own sake. Amusingly, Bela had been accused of the same in the past. She’d remained self-assured, knowing there were far worse things out there than a ruthless thief. Besides, she’d come to view life differently in recent years. Odd things had happened.

“Same as me, then,” she replied with a half-hearted smile. A sight-seeing demon. Whimsical. What kind of sights was she looking for? “Only without the hell part,” she added.

The female leaned back against her car. She forgot it existed for a moment there; thankfully, she had not left it on. The keys tucked into the right pocket of her jeans. She yanked it off some drunk kid cities back; a car allowed her to go through streets at speeds where no other demon would be likely to see the true face under the meatsuit’s. Only one other reason to like the small Toyota Corolla.

“I see, no Hell spawn duties for you either, then?” Her ‘brow quirked up and a small smirk tilted onto her lips.

Bela huffed out a laugh. “Not if I can help it. Besides, duties sounds way too much like having a boss to me. That’s not really my style.” She paused, mulling over her thoughts of Hell. Regardless of what had happened, and her determination to avoid answering for the choices she’d made, deep down Bela knew she’d have a boss of some kind waiting for her. But didn’t everybody?

She glanced around the demon to the car. “Want some company?” she asked.
