It’s just you, Sam almost bit off, and then didn’t. Irritation had him wanting to throw something back at her that was a lot more jagged than what he had readily available. He didn’t trust her as far as he could throw her, but he searched her expression for long enough to decide that maybe — maybe — he could give her the benefit of the doubt. At least as far as being here on a personal agenda, rather than a business one. Not that it meant she wouldn’t be just as much of a conniving bitch if the occasion called for it, but he and Dean had a head’s-up this time around.

He wanted to come back with something about how nobility had nothing to do with it, it was just about choosing not to screw people over; instead, he leveled out, “The jury’s still out on that one, but I guess we’ll find out soon either way.” Sam scoffed quietly and shook his head a little. “If you’re actually gonna stick to those terms, then fine — you stay out of our way, we’ll stay out of yours.”

The steady escalation of annoyance in Sam’s demeanor had been evident. Neither sibling was particularly skilled at disguising their irritation whenever Bela crossed their path, and the vexation amused her; perhaps with less ardor than in earlier meetings, but ample enough to tempt her to provoke. The Winchesters. The two most judgemental hunters she’d ever met; a trait that laced the profession, though none had perfected it as well as these morons.  She didn’t enjoy being a thorn in their side as much as they liked to think; an inconvenience in actuality. However, she could still fulfil the role with some delight, if they expected it of her.

“Still no real insight into your own adventure. And I’m the one who doesn’t play fair.” A grin curved her lips, as she closed the distance with two steps toward him. “I can speculate; you two are predictable. Naughty monsters are traipsing around where they shouldn’t be. Puppy Eyes and Angry Bear have arrived to save the day, after which you’ll run along to weep into your travel flasks about how life is so unfair, yet you soldier on regardless because you’re both so very brave and unselfish.” Dropping her head to one side, she threw him a wink. “If I got in the way of that beautiful story, one of you might fall and hurt himself.”

She grinned. “Well, let me put it differently: What are your… talents? I might be able to think up something you could do for me.”

“You seem to be inexplicably confident that we should interact in some manner. I doubt I have a talent for you, sweetheart. Or that I would be inclined to offer it, if I did.”

No, you’re right, we don’t know each other that well. But you know what? So far, Dean and I are a hell of a lot more credible than you. Which is exactly why you get to spill first, if you want me to tell you jack.

Credible from your kingly pedestal. Does everybody look so pitiful from way up there, or is it just me? I almost forgot how noble you both think you are. Precious. I’m here for something I need. I am my very own client, this time. You can decide whether that makes me potentially more bothersome or not.

Oh, you can feel guilt now? That’s a new one.

And I’m pretty sure there’s a quid pro quo somewhere in this, but if you’re not talking then neither am I.

The all-seeing Winchesters. You’ve just got everybody pegged, haven’t you? We don’t know each other that well, considering. I’m not sure you’re aware of what I do, or don’t feel, Sammy.

So I have to spill first, do I? That doesn’t seem very fair.
